The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to begin on March 22. The tournament will run for 2 months concluding with the final on May 25.
Matches will take place in 13 cities across India. Eden Gardens, Kolkata will host both the opening match and the final match.
The IPL 2025 will feature 10 teams. The franchises include Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), Gujarat Titans (GT), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Mumbai Indians (MI), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
The IPL was launched in 2008 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as a T20 tournament featuring franchise-based teams.
The Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are the most dominant teams in IPL each securing 5 titles. Kolkata Knight Riders have won the championship twice while other past winners include Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujrat Titans.
Virat Kohli is the highest run-scorer in IPL history exceeding 7,0000 runs while Yuzvendra Chahal holds the record for most wickets, with 205 wickets in 160 matches.
The IPL 2025 auction saw record breaking bids with Rishabh Pant becoming the most expensive player in IPL history signing with Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 27 crore. Shreyas Iyer was the 2nd highest securing Rs 26.75 crore deal with Punjab Kings.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi a 13-year-old left-handed top order batsman from Bihar is the youngest player in IPL 2025. He was signed by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 1.10 crore setting a record as the youngest-ever player in IPL history.
